Kyiv (8/07 – 62.5) Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv was hit in renewed strikes by Russian terror attacks with rockets against Ukrainian targets. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least 41 civilians dead, seven of them children, and many others were injured. Search parties combed the debris and continued to look for the killed and injured. Volunteers are searching for the destroyed children hospital on the ground. Nurses and doctors are working to save and evacuate patients and visitors. Nigeria is calling for the release of ousted Niger president Mohamed Bazoum and for the military junta to allow him to leave for a third country, its foreign minister said. Nigeria is current chair of the regional group Economic Community of West African States or ECOWAS which has imposed sanctions on Niger following the July coup that ousted Bazoum. The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) announced the arrest of Valens Uwitonze, a technical assistance specialist in the Wood and Furniture Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) sector at the Rwanda Standards Board (RSB). He was apprehended on suspicion of accepting a bribe in exchange for issuing a certificate of quality. According to a RIB statement, Uwitonze was caught red-handed as he received a bribe of Rwf 25 million, on October 20. Ethiopia recorded over 85,800 crossings as the humanitarian crisis in Sudan enters its sixth month, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has said. Since the onset of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan in mid-April, about 1.1 million people have crossed into neighboring Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia and South Sudan, UNOCHA said in its latest situation update issued late Thursday. Martti Ahtisaari, the former president of Finland and global peace broker who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008 for his work to resolve international conflicts, died Monday. He was 86. The Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari has said that the efforts being made by the Federal Government would end the importation of wheat seeds in the next four to five years, noting that the importation was gulping the country’s foreign reserves.
