Angola President João Lourenço is set to embark on a two-day official State visit from Saturday 21st October.
President Lourenço who was accompanied by Ana Dias Lourenço, the First Lady of the Republic of Angola jetted into the country on Thursday ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations.
He was received by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium.
The leaders later engaged engaged in a joint commission for cooperation between Kenya and Angola.
PCS Mudavadi said Kenya’s foreign policy places great importance on Pan-Africanism as a strategic tool to address African challenges with African solutions.
The Angolan President missed the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kericho despite being in the country.
“On behalf of the President, I would first like to convey his apologies. He would have loved to be here but for unforeseen reasons, he could not make it to Kericho but he sent you a warm greeting,” said Ambassador António Tete.
President William Ruto confirmed that the visiting Head of State was in the country and would commence his official visit on Saturday.
Ambassador Tete said the event evoked memories since 1975, when the last Angolan leader visited the country.
“We are starting a new dawn in the relationship with Angola in Kenya. We are having the first official visit by an Angolan President since 1975,” Ambassador Tete said.
“He will be having his state visit tomorrow,” the President Ruto said during his Mashujaa Day speech in Kericho County.
